About
Gaurav Vikalp is an artist alter ego experimenting in the realm of illustrations, comics and graphic design. A vortex of the seductive as well as the banal parts of the human experience, Gaurav’s work takes closely from Indian calendar art, miniature paintings, Thangka murals and traditional handicrafts with the aim of making art that reflects the Indian zeitgeist. With hopes of changing the world, he has predominantly worked in the development sector with clients like Quicksand, Nyaaya.in and People's Archive of Rural India. He has also been associated with art residencies like the Kochi Biennale Foundation (on a non-fiction comic residency with Orijit Sen) and Farside Collective (a multi-disciplinary artist residency in Leh). Gaurav admires the likes of Tom of Finland, Raja Ravi Varma, David Mazzucchelli and Emil Ferris amongst others for their amazing, audacious storytelling.
