"Seeking mythology in the everyday"
Hasmukh Makwana is a painter currently based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Hailing from Saurashtra, Hasmukh grew up in an environment steeped in mythology and traditions. These form the foundation upon which he takes his day-to-day inspirations and reimagines them in a style that is inventive, surreal and refreshing. With rice paper and watercolours as his primary materials, Hasmukh adds on more forms and mediums as his subjects demand. Hasmukh counts Frida Kahlo, Mithu Sen and Nalini Malani amongst his major sources of inspiration.
