About The Artist
Kaimurai is the identity through which visual artist Abishek G J expresses his love for natural indigo and the endless possibilities it holds. Having worked as a Fashion Designer for fifteen years, he now devotes his time to his art and research, carefully seeking out the threads that connect us all but rarely reveal themselves. Drawing upon inspirations like biomimicry, geomorphology and the Western Ghats, his series ‘Amrutavarshini’ is a commentary on the fallout of our aimless growth and greed on marine ecosystems, and the urgent need for introspection and a more mindful existence. Kaimurai’s other major influences include Carnatic music and ancient South Indian arts and architecture.
