The David Sassoon Library and Reading Room is one of the oldest surviving libraries in Mumbai. But more than that, it is an enduring cultural and architectural landmark of this city. After an extensive conservation exercise supported by JSW Foundation and ICICI Foundation, it was restored to its former glory and reopened to the public on 2 June, 2023.
To mark the occasion, Mumbai Light Festival was commissioned to create a projection mapping experience on the iconic facade of the library. Taking inspiration from the design and architecture of the building - including its facade motifs, vintage flooring tiles, glass work and wood work - we created an experience that mesmerised viewers for three evenings and ensured that the iconic institution had a reopening to remember.
